Ascendance: an experiment in colour music for VR

Working in the tradition of Visual Music, inspired by, and very much in the shadow of, abstract animation giants Oskar Fischinger, Norman McLaren, Mary Ellen Bute, John Whitney, Jordan Belson, Len Lye et al, the Ascendance project seeks to explore the possibilities of VR for Colour Music. Motivated by the common goal of a seamless and impactful audio-visual experience, a genuine collaboration was struck between musical composer and animator as they confronted the aesthetic and procedural challenges presented by VR’s limitless canvas.
